This subfield focuses on the treatment of mental health and relationship issues within families.

Family Systems Theory: A theory that looks at the family as a system, where each member is interdependent and affects the others in the system.
Structural Family Therapy: A type of family therapy that focuses on exploring and adjusting the family's structure to improve communication and relationships.
Strategic Family Therapy: A type of family therapy that uses strategic interventions to help the family solve problems and improve communication.
Narrative Therapy: A type of therapy that helps individuals change their perspective on past experiences by looking at them in a new way.
Solution-Focused Therapy: A type of therapy that focuses on solutions rather than problems and helps the family create and achieve goals.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: A type of therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thoughts and behaviors.
Attachment Theory: A theory that focuses on the idea that our early attachments to our caregivers shape our relationships throughout our lives.
Emotionally Focused Therapy: A type of therapy that helps individuals and couples identify and express their emotions and improve the emotional bond between them.
Collaborative Therapy: A type of therapy that emphasizes collaboration between the therapist and the family, encouraging them to work together to solve problems.
Play Therapy: A type of therapy for children that uses play and other activities to help them express their feelings and cope with difficult situations.
Art Therapy: A type of therapy that uses art and other creative activities to help individuals express themselves and work through emotional issues.
Family Assessment: The process of evaluating the family's strengths and weaknesses to help identify areas that need work and create a treatment plan.
Communication skills: Teaching and practicing skills to improve family communication, such as active listening, speaking respectfully, and clearly conveying emotions.
Family dynamics: Understanding the ways in which family members interact with each other, including power dynamics, roles, and boundaries.
Cultural competence: Understanding and respecting the cultural beliefs and values of the family and using that understanding in treatment.
