Agent deontology

This is also known as modern deontology. According to this type of deontology, actions are evaluated based on the intentions of the actor. Agent deontologists believe that it is important to act according to moral principles, but these principles must be interpreted and applied by the individual according to his or her intentions. For example, they might argue that killing an innocent person is wrong, but if the person had good intentions (such as doing it in self-defense), then the action may be excused.
