A person whose gender expression does not conform to traditional gender norms.

Gender identity: A person's internal sense of their gender, which may or may not align with their biological sex.
Sexuality: A person's sexual orientation, which is not necessarily related to their gender identity or expression.
Gender expression: The way a person presents themselves to the world, which may or may not conform to traditional societal expectations or stereotypes of masculinity or femininity.
Pronouns: The words people use to refer to themselves and others, such as he, she, they, or ze. Non-binary individuals may use other pronouns that are less widely recognized or accepted.
Gender dysphoria: The distress or discomfort that some individuals experience when their gender identity does not align with their biological sex or the gender they were assigned at birth.
Transgender: An umbrella term referring to individuals whose gender identity or expression does not match the gender they were assigned at birth.
Non-binary: An identity that falls outside the traditional binary categories of male and female.
Genderqueer: A term used by individuals who reject traditional gender categories and may identify as both male and female, neither, or somewhere in between.
Gender-affirming healthcare: Medical treatments and procedures that help individuals align their physical body with their gender identity, such as hormone therapy or gender-confirming surgeries.
Legal recognition of gender identity: Laws and policies related to changing one's name and gender marker on identity documents, as well as protections against discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression.
Intersectionality: The interconnectedness of different systems of oppression, such as racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, and others, which can affect individuals' experiences of gender nonconformity differently depending on their race, ethnicity, disability status, and other factors.
Coming out: The process of disclosing one's gender identity or expression to others, which can be a challenging and ongoing process for many individuals.
Allyship: The practice of supporting and advocating for individuals who identify as gender nonconforming, which can involve educating oneself about these issues, actively challenging gender stereotypes and discrimination, and creating safe and inclusive environments for all individuals.
