The laws, regulations, and policies that govern the management and protection of the environment.

Climate change: Understanding the science, projected impacts, and policy responses to global warming caused by the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Sustainable development: The need to balance economic, social, and environmental objectives in policymaking to ensure a more equitable and durable world for future generations.
Environmental justice: Examining the distribution of environmental risks and benefits across different social groups, and identifying ways to promote greater equity and democracy in environmental decision-making.
Pollution control: Understanding air, water, and soil pollution control technologies and regulations, as well as best management practices for industry, agriculture, and transportation.
Natural resource management: Understanding the principles of managing natural resources for sustainable use and conservation, and the policies and institutions that govern resource extraction and use.
Energy policy: Understanding the challenges and opportunities of transitioning to low-carbon and renewable energy sources, and the policies and incentives that can facilitate this shift.
Biodiversity conservation: Exploring the importance of protecting natural habitats and species diversity, and understanding the policies and tools used to achieve this goal.
International environmental governance: The roles and institutions of global environmental governance, including treaties, conventions, and agreements, and the potential conflicts and cooperation across different countries and regions.
Environmental ethics: Examining cultural perceptions of environment and nature, and exploring principles of stewardship, responsibility, and justice in environmental decision-making.
Public participation: Describing the various ways in which citizens can participate in environmental policy-making and implementation, particularly through advocacy, consultation, and community engagement.
Command and control: This type of policy aims to reduce environmental pollution by using regulations, permits, and other forms of government intervention.
Market-based: A market-based policy aims to encourage businesses and individuals to make environmentally conscious decisions by introducing market-based incentives such as taxes, subsidies, and regulatory measures.
Voluntary: This policy relies on voluntary actions by businesses and individuals rather than mandatory regulations. It can include voluntary agreements, certifications, and other self-regulatory measures.
Co-regulation: Co-regulation is a combination of command and control and voluntary approaches. It seeks to develop mutually agreeable standards between governments and industry.
Information-based: These policies are designed to educate the public about environmental issues by providing them with the relevant information, such as environmental labeling and public awareness campaigns.
Adaptive management: Adaptive management involves constant monitoring and updating of environmental policies based on new data, scientific research, and stakeholder feedback.
International: International policies are created to address environmental issues that cross borders, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and air and water pollution. These policies are usually implemented through treaties, conventions, and global agreements.
Multi-level governance: This type of policy recognizes the different levels of government, including regional, national, and local governments. It seeks to coordinate these levels of governance to implement environmental policies effectively.
