Refers to the assumption that heterosexuality is the default or "normal" sexual orientation.

Gender Binary: The societal concept that there are only two opposing genders - male and female.
Gender Expression: The external manifestation of one's gender identity, usually through clothing, mannerisms, and behavior.
Gender Identity: An individual's personal sense of their own gender, which may or may not align with their assigned gender at birth.
Sex Assigned at Birth: The biological designation of an individual as male, female, or intersex based on their genital anatomy at birth.
Intersex: Individuals who are born with physical characteristics that do not fit typical binary male or female classifications.
Patriarchy: A social system that grants men greater power and privileges over women and non-binary individuals.
Heterosexuality: The sexual attraction between individuals of different genders.
Homosexuality: The sexual attraction between individuals of the same gender.
Bisexuality: The sexual attraction to individuals of both genders.
Transgender: Individuals whose gender identity differs from the gender assigned to them at birth.
Cisgender: Individuals whose gender identity aligns with the gender assigned to them at birth.
Queer Theory: A sociological approach that examines the social construction of sexual and gender identity.
Gender Roles: The societal expectations and norms surrounding the behavior and characteristics of individuals based on their gender.
Gender Socialization: The process through which individuals learn and internalize societal expectations and norms associated with their gender.
Heteronormativity: The assumption that heterosexuality is the norm and other sexual orientations and gender identities are abnormal or deviant.
Sexual Orientation: The direction of an individual's sexual and romantic attraction towards other individuals, typically defined as heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.
Gender Policing: The enforcement of societal expectations and norms surrounding gender through social pressure, exclusion, or violence.
Sexism: Prejudice or discrimination based on an individual's gender or perceived gender.
Gender Inequality: The unequal distribution of power, rights, and opportunities based on gender.
