Hemming: A technique used to finish the raw edge of fabric with a folded seam.
Invisible zipper: A zipper that is hidden from view when the garment is complete.
Lining: A layer of fabric that is sewn to the inside of a garment.
Overlock: A stitch that finishes the raw edge of a garment.
Piping: A cord that is inserted into a fabric tube and then sewn onto a garment.
Quilting: A technique where layers of fabric and batting are sewn together to create a padded effect.
Ruching: A technique used to create gathers in a garment.
Shirring: A technique used to create gathers by sewing rows of elastic thread onto the fabric.
Topstitching: A stitch that is sewn on the outside of the fabric to create a decorative effect.
Understitching: A stitch used to sew the lining into a garment.
Zigzag stitch: A stitch that is used to finish the raw edge of fabric or to create a decorative effect.
