It is the inflammation of the epiglottis (a flap that prevents food or liquid from entering the trachea when swallowing). It is a severe condition that can lead to breathing difficulties, fever, and dehydration, and requires emergency medical attention. It can be caused by bacterial infections, and treatment may involve intubation, antibiotics or surgery.
