Different player positions in team sports and their roles and responsibilities.

Offense: This refers to the team's strategy for scoring points or goals against the opposing team.
Defense: This refers to the team's strategy for preventing the opposing team from scoring points or goals.
Midfield: In sports like soccer and field hockey, midfielders are players who operate between the forward and defensive sections of the field. They help build attacks and defend as well.
Forward: This refers to the players on the offensive side of a team who are responsible for scoring goals.
Striker: This is the primary goal scorer on a team and is typically positioned closest to the opposing team’s goal.
Centre forward: This player is responsible for linking the midfield and forward players and often initiates attacks.
Winger: This refers to the players on the offensive side of a team who are positioned on the outside edges of the field and work to create scoring opportunities by crossing the ball into the center.
Fullback: This refers to the players on the defensive side of a team who are positioned behind the midfielders and work to prevent the opposing team from attacking through the wings.
Centre-back: This player is responsible for organizing the team’s defense and ensuring that the defensive line remains compact.
Goalkeeper: This is the player responsible for defending the goalpost and preventing the opposing team from scoring.
Sweeper: This player operates behind the defensive line and is responsible for clearing the ball from dangerous situations.
Wing-back: This player is a mix between a fullback and a midfielder and operates in the wide channels of the field.
Playmaker: This player is responsible for coordinating the team’s attacking movements and for creating scoring opportunities.
Defensive midfielder: This player operates just in front of the defense and is responsible for breaking up the attacking play of the opposition.
Attacking midfielder: This player operates just behind the forwards and is responsible for playing through balls and creating goal-scoring opportunities for teammates.
Center midfielder: This player is a versatile player who is able to play both attacking and defensive roles and is typically tasked with maintaining possession of the ball.
Tactician: This player is responsible for changing the team’s tactics and providing guidance to the rest of the squad.
Substitute: This player is a reserve player who replaces another player on the field in case of injury or tactical changes.
Captain/Leader: This player is typically the best player on the team, and is responsible for providing inspiration, motivation, and leadership.
Set-piece taker: This player is responsible for taking free-kicks, corner kicks, or penalty kicks on behalf of the team.
Forward/ Striker: Primary responsibility is to score goals and create opportunities for other players.
Midfielder: Plays in the middle third of the field and is responsible for transition play and distributing the ball to offensive players.
Defender: Plays in the backline and is responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring.
Goalkeeper: The last line of defense, responsible for stopping shots and initiating counterattacks.
Point guard: The primary ball handler and facilitator on the basketball court.
Shooting guard: Primary responsibility is to score points, often by shooting from beyond the three-point line.
Small forward: Serves as a versatile player, often providing a mix of scoring, rebounding, and defense.
Power forward: Plays near the basket and is responsible for rebounding and scoring in the post.
Center: Typically the tallest player on the team, responsible for defense and scoring in the paint.
Libero: A volleyball position that specializes in defensive play, often playing in the back row and responsible for passing, digging, and setting.
Setter: The volleyball player responsible for setting up attacking options, often working closely with the libero in the back row.
Wing: Rugby position that typically requires speed and the ability to evade defenders.
Prop: Rugby position responsible for the physical work in the scrum, primarily in the front row.
Hooker: Another rugby position in the front row, responsible for hooking or striking for the ball in the scrum.
Halfback: Rugby position responsible for controlling the flow of the game, often working closely with the forward pack or the backline.
