The cultural belief that there are only two genders: male and female, and that individuals must conform to one of these categories.

Biological sex: Refers to the physical and physiological characteristics that define males and females. This includes reproductive organs, hormones, and chromosomes.
Gender identity: Refers to an individual’s internal sense of their own gender. This can be male, female, non-binary, or other gender identities.
Gender expression: Refers to the way an individual presents their gender to others, such as through clothing, behavior, or mannerisms.
Gender roles: Refers to the societal expectations placed on individuals based on their perceived gender. These may include behaviors, roles, and responsibilities.
Gender stereotypes: Refers to oversimplified and often harmful assumptions about gender that are based on societal norms and expectations.
Gender discrimination: Refers to negative treatment or unfair practices against individuals based on their gender.
Transgender: Refers to individuals whose gender identity does not align with their biological sex assigned at birth.
Non-binary: Refers to individuals who do not identify as male or female and may identify as a gender outside of the gender binary.
Intersex: Refers to individuals who are born with physical or biological characteristics that do not fit typical male or female definitions.
Cisgender: Refers to individuals whose gender identity aligns with their biological sex assigned at birth.
Gender dysphoria: Refers to the distress or discomfort experienced by individuals whose gender identity does not align with their biological sex assigned at birth.
LGBTQ+: Refers to the community of individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer/questioning.
Pronouns: Refers to the words used to refer to individuals, such as he/him, she/her, and they/them.
Sexual orientation: Refers to an individual’s sexual attraction and romantic feelings towards others, such as being attracted to the same gender or opposite gender.
Intersectionality: Refers to the interconnectedness of various social identities, including gender, race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality, and how they affect an individual’s experiences and opportunities in society.
