SDRs are a type of international reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). They are allocated to member countries based on their share of IMF quotas and can be exchanged for other currencies. SDRs are intended to supplement existing reserve assets and provide liquidity in the international monetary system, but they have not been widely adopted by countries.
