Conflict Styles: Understanding your own conflict style and those of others can help you adapt your approach to conflict resolution. The five main conflict styles are avoidance, accommodation, competition, compromise, and collaboration.

Compromise: This involves finding a middle ground or settling a dispute by making a concession. Compromise conflict resolution entails arriving at an agreement that satisfies all parties and involves making some concessions.
Accommodation: This involves prioritizing one party’s needs over others. Accommodation conflict resolution is typically used when one party agrees to put their needs aside for the sake of resolving the issue.
Competition: This involves one party seeking to win against the other. Competition conflict resolution occurs when both parties have opposing interests and they seek to achieve their goals at the expense of the other party.
Avoidance: This involves avoiding the conflict altogether. Avoidance conflict resolution is used when a conflict is considered too difficult, and it is easier to avoid it altogether than addressing it.
Mediation: This involves using a neutral third party to help determine a suitable resolution to a conflict. Mediation conflict resolution is common in situations where parties involved in conflict require an objective opinion.
Assertiveness: This involves expressing one's needs and opinions in a clear and direct manner. Assertiveness conflict resolution requires both parties to voice their needs and discuss them openly in order to find a mutual resolution.
Negotiation: This involves seeking a solution that benefits both parties. Negotiation conflict resolution is a formal process involving two parties discussing their issues in order to reach an agreement.
Arbitration: This involves a third party making the final decision, which both parties must agree to accept. Arbitration conflict resolution is commonly used in legal disputes.
