Polarization Series

Home > Chemistry > Electrochemistry > Electrochemical Series > Polarization Series

This type of series lists various electrode materials in order of their resistance to polarization. Polarization is a phenomenon that occurs when the build-up of reaction products on the surface of an electrode inhibits further reaction. Electrodes that are more susceptible to polarization are at the top of the series, while electrodes that are more resistant to polarization are at the bottom. The polarization series is used to select the most suitable electrode for a particular electrochemical application.
