Recognizing unconscious biases and stereotypes that can impact perceptions and interactions with people of different races, ethnicities, and identities, and learning strategies for overcoming them.

Definition of Implicit Bias: An automatic and unconscious attitude or belief about a person or group based on their perceived characteristics or identity.
Stereotyping: A generalization about a group of people that is often based on limited or inaccurate information.
Prejudice: A negative evaluation or judgment made about a person or group based on their perceived identity.
Discrimination: Unfair treatment or behavior towards a person or group based on their perceived identity.
Socialization: The process by which individuals learn the norms, values, and beliefs of their culture.
Intersectionality: The recognition that individuals have multiple identities that intersect and influence their experiences and opportunities.
Colorblindness: The belief that race or ethnicity should be ignored or not acknowledged, often leading to the denial of the existence of racial or ethnic disparities.
Confirmation Bias: The tendency to search for or interpret information that confirms pre-existing beliefs or attitudes.
Implicit Association Test (IAT): A tool used to measure implicit biases by measuring the speed of associations made between various stimuli and attitudes.
Microaggressions: Subtle, often unintentional acts or statements that communicate negative or derogatory messages to members of marginalized groups.
Stereotype Threat: The anxiety and negative effects that arise when individuals are aware of negative stereotypes about their identity.
Systemic Racism: The ways in which systems and institutions perpetuate racial disparities and discrimination.
White Privilege: The advantages and benefits that individuals and groups identified as white often experience due to their racial identity.
Allyship: The practice of actively working to dismantle systems of oppression and supporting marginalized communities.
